- Moons -

Art, poetry, and music have drawn inspiration from the moon. Earths cosmic satellite has an undeniable pull on our physical body and our psyche. This is evident from stories, myths, and legends found in cultures throughout history. As the moon waxes and wanes from full to new the constant reliable pulse marks the progression of time through the seasons. This rhythm is marked by names assigned to each full moon, many of which have origins in Native American cultures. These names often relate to the seasonal cycles, such as planting, harvesting, and the movement of animals, which help serve as connection to the natural world.

This series of paintings celebrate these seasonal names which have been adopted into modern use. Stylistically the paintings are defined by hard edge geometric forms set in painterly fields of color. A horizon defines the space, while a geometric form floats within the composition. The paintings have a physicality achieved by applying washes of color, then wiping areas away, painting new forms over past forms, and scoring into the panel to create sharp distinct lines. The results are hard edged paintings, with simple forms and subtle shifts in color. Rhythm, pattern and repetition create harmony and balance within the work.
